Olympic Etiquette 101

Kalli and I were talking about this the other night while watching the Olympics. It was funny to me because it is a pet peeve of mine. It bothers me when men do not take their hats off when the flag is being raised. It seems that , I'm going to say it, the younger generation, is missing some very important flag etiquette skills. I have seen this so many times at High School Sports and College Sporting events as well. I can almost live with the hat thing but what happened to putting your hand over your heart in respect for the flag? Only about half of the US Medal Winners even do that. I know they are caught in the moment but seriously they should know this stuff. Surely there is some kind of Olympic packet that they get upon arrival that says something like...In the case of a win in any event one should show proper respect for their country and flag by saluting it while it is being raised in your honor ! I don't care as much if they don't sing the National Anthem although I think all should be able to at least mouth the words.

We have a great country with all her imperfections. We are so lucky to live here, work here, raise our families in freedom, and die here as free citizens. Others have died to guarantee us that privilege. Let's all remember that it is a symbol of respect and not some old outdated thing that our grandparents used to do back in the day.

We can do better. We should do better!

Don't even get me started with hats on at the dinner table : )

A Valentine's Poem for My Sweetheart .....Mike

Love Is A Choice

It’s not enough to tell you Mike, that you’re a real good man
The years have opened up my eyes, it’s clear to understand
The choices that you made before your life with me began
The foundation that you built upon, to live the Savior’s plan
It has not been easy, everyday brings something new
I’ve always known that I was safe, every minute I’m with you
A gentle touch, a warm embrace, encouraging me to
Stretch myself and try new things, and with your help I grew
You were born to be a Father, the best Dad I’ve ever seen
Teaching independence and searching out their dreams
Working hard to care for your responsibilities
You choose to smile even though I know it’s harder than it seems
I’m so grateful that you loved me first
And knew what path to take
You took my hand and knelt with me and covenants were made
Once we were young, and now we’re not
Our story I won’t trade
I share it now, and pass it on, and hope it gets replayed

Seriously 850

Mike is still jumping through all the hoops to look for a job. He went to a job fair yesterday at the U of U. He spoke with a women in the HR department of a place he has sent a resume to. She told him she received 850 applications for that posting. They through out every one that did not have a degree in finance. I wonder just how many are left. Mike has a degree in finance. I wonder what number that really makes him? Also, this is for a job that make less than half of what he was making. It's crazy out there.
